Unveiling their sold-out Geordie debut, GURRIERS bring a fiery spiritedness to the Cluny, leaving a memorable stamp in a well-loved Newcastle venue.
Supported by the talented female-fronted ‘THEATRE’, the unsuspecting crowd was taken by surprise as the band performed equally as if they were headlining themselves. Lead singer Meave’s vocals enchanted gig-goers at the Cluny, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in the music and performance. Sonically, the instruments played by Dara, Oscar, Sonny and Sean, are a perfect addition to uplift the powerful vocals and give them an enticing edge. The Limerick band are nothing short of impressive and dexterous, the drums pierced through the speakers with a purpose, giving the set an impactful emphasis. Choosing THEATRE as a support act, was an exemplary decision that no one can deny.
The main act, GURRIERS, stormed to the stage. Soundtracked with ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ by Frankie Valli, the band’s appearance ignites a hunger that was bubbling within the crowd before they made their entrance.
‘Close Call’ and ‘Nausea’ kicked off the night, fuelling the crowd to give the band all of their energy. ‘Des Goblin’ shortly followed, over four minutes of authentic enthusiasm and admiration encapsulates the crowd in a vigorous celebration.
Their lead singer Dan, continuously reminded everyone throughout the night to keep each other safe, which is so important in the current music scene. A heartwarming testament to the band’s down-to-earth nature.
‘Top Of The Bill’ unleashed the crowd into a collective cheer and applause, a clear fan favourite for its easy-going yet emotive attributes. ‘Come and See’ and ‘Dipping Out’ are two standout tracks, efficacious and dynamic are words that can only begin to illustrate the Irish five-piece’s musical impressions. Although Pierce, Ben, and Mark remained on stage throughout the entire show, their instrumental contributions echoed throughout the venue, leaving a lasting impact. The atmosphere they created can best be described as dominant and self-assured, enhancing the overall experience of the night.
Gurriers’ showmanship is not to be missed, as they outwardly express their artistic direction to crowds every night. Their stage presence captivates the audience, with passion and dedication pouring from their fingertips as they commanded their instruments and delivered powerful vocals that resonate within their songs. The energy in the venue soared when their bassist, Charlie, and lead singer, Dan, joined the crowd during the set, creating a wave of excitement as fans thrashed in time with the rhythms crafted by the band’s exceptional talent. One enthusiastic audience member even successfully crowd-surfed around the venue, proving that the setlist perfectly matched the crowd’s energy and spirit.
With no such thing as an Irish goodbye in the band’s performance ideology, Gurriers closed the set to applaud and thank the crowd, expressing their appreciation for the audience’s dedication in supporting the band and their captivating talent. The show they put on was truly exceptional, and it’s clear that they are destined for great success.
